Are you saying that no longer applies, there is no more > master/slave thing? There is, but there is also a "cable select" option. It's usually in the same jumper row, and that one means that the device (hd) will determine wether it is a master or a slave depending on where it is in the cable. There can be two devices in one cable, and if both (or one; the other can be set to master/slave) are set as "cable select", they'll figure out which one all by themselves. > If there are ONLY TWO unattached cables in the box and I have > to plug both of them into the drive to do this, ok, I can probably > manage. You can, and think about the warm fuzzy feeling of success you'll get out of it. And you get to wear a "Hardware person" hat for at least a month ;-) > If I have to KNOW anything, it's a different story. :( The drives won't break if you plug them in the wrong cables or have the jumpers wrong (unless you use brutal force to drive a power cable to a data slot ), so don't worry about it. What will happen if the cables are wrong is that the system either won't boot (hangs in the BIOS screen with an error message), or it will boot from the wrong disk (if you have two bootable devices). Go for it.
