RF> this awhile back. Some children who are reported as ADHD have allergies
RF> or sleeping disorders, which mimics ADHD.
Yup. And many folks don't have the wisdom to know the difference. You
are apparently doing all you can to find out.
RF> My daughter is RF> a manic depressive. Her disorder is there
because of a chemical imbalance. RF> It is actually mild, but severe
enough to warrent medication (although she RF> refuses it).
I have several friends with this diagnosis, one of them has a master's
degree in counseling, and his specialty is chemical dependency. He has
a long personal history of trying one drug recreationally after the
other until someone finally persuaded him to stick to what was
prescribed for him. And that was only after a long period of time in
which his immune system was badly damaged. I know about that because he
camped out in my living room for a year and healed himself, slowly, with
what he already knew and a very good psychiatrist suggested.
One of the things he specializes in is knowledge of nutrition and
exercise. The man is over 50 and works outside much better than most
25 year olds do.
I also learned, from some report on research in Europe, that there are
five different genetic codes (thought there) for the Bipolar Disorder or
what you call manic depression, and three of those five are associated
with alcoholism. If true, then every manic depressive (Bipolar) is also
automatically going to be a known alcoholic if they drink any amount of
alcoholic beverages at all.
Alcohol is used by those with these diagnoses (three other friends
assure me from personal knowledge of the disease) to control the manic
phases. It doesn't do much for the depressive as it is in itself a
depressive drug.
And lithium is not the only drug being used these days to treat it.
I do hope that your daughter will find some protocol she can live with.
It also gets set off by situations. I'm sure if the RF>situations RF>
would go away her manic depression would not warrent medication at this
tim RF> because it is mild.
She is lucky to be diagnosed young. Most bipolars are not diagnosed
until they are much older and have done themselves a lot of damage with
the self medication and treatment they have tried.
But the only allergies she has is Cinnamon. I believe RF> most people
have some form of allergies to something. Even if it is one RF> or
two. This is not the cause of everyones disorders.
No, however as I said before, the cerebral ones are harder to spot.
What is also not being loudly said are the results of enviornmental
contaimination. We have passed the Clean Air Act, we have passed the
Clean Water Act. Implementation is very, very slow.
RF> Also, I am ADHD too. I never took medication either. The allergies
did no RF> affect my behavior. (Maybe when I was smaller and did not
know or RF>understood RF> and my behavior was the only way to say I was
uncomfortable). I self RF> medicate myself at time with beer. I do
have several beers a week, not RF> getting high on it or drunk, but
several a week. I will panic if there RF> is none in the house. I need
one to be in my fridge at all times. I do RF> go for weeks without it
also. No, I am not an alcoholic, but you will RF> probably call me that
after what I said. I am ADHD and I self medicate RF> myself with it. I
smoke cigarrettes which is another form of self- RF> medication.
This is very dangerous for you and more dangerous for your children to
see this in a parental role model. Most addicts start out just this way
with the same jusitifications.
Research is being done on this now at the University in RF> the area.
Research has been done on this and many other things world wide.
ADHD people have a harder time quitting these two things RF> because of
their disorder.
There are many people who have a medical reason for being addicted.
Some of them even have permission to use from an M.D. They, incidently,
are the hardest to treat.
