This problem has been fixed in emxfix03.zip of 05-Mar-1995. Here's a
quotation from emxfix03.doc:

o scanf() does not correctly handle a matching failure caused by an
    ordinary character after an assignment

Thanks to Bob Juge, Phil Crown, and anyone else who forwarded my
message to Eberhard. My response came from a different internet
gateway, so I will try that gateway myself in future. I hope to
be trying out EMXFIX03 soon. BFN. Paul.
