Replying to a message of BOB KLAHN to CRYSTAL WALTERS:

CW>> I was a bit of a late starter to the computer world, I
CW>> didn't get my first PC unil like 1990 I think. It was a
CW>> Packard Bell 286 with 1 meg of RAM and MS-DOS. It was
CW>> pretty crappy, and I think it was refurbished. We would
CW>> often get WDC Adapter failures and have to reboot the PC
CW>> over and over until it booted properly again. A nightmare,
CW>> and yet I still miss those days. Funny how we don't notice
 CW>> our own insanity. ;)

BK> Packard Bell was once a respected name in electronics. Even in
BK> computers, at first. Then they came up with some money saving
BK> techniques, and their computers were so bad they went out of
BK> business in this country. Sad, but the bean counters struck
 BK> again.

The outfit that put the Packard Bell label on its computers was/is totally unrelated
to the defunct, highly respected, electronics manufacturer. It picked up
the abandoned
trademark and used it.
