My best guess it to check occasionally to see if you have received any packet
errors.  If you have, you can probably cancel the transfer and start over.
This could be time consuming, however, since you have to download the same
file two or more times.  Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.  I'm
running Windows 95 on my system, and I just 'Restart in MS-DOS Mode' and run
Telemate for DOS.  I haven't had any problems with that so far.
