G'day Bob,
On 17-02-95 08:27, Bob Lawrence said to Jeff Green
JG>> As for Keating. If he didn't suck up to Bill, who else was he
JG>> going to get to help Telecom fund Australias 'information
JG>> highway'?
BL> What "information highway?" It's all Gates' bullshit!
No, he promised to setup some company that gave access for users to
Internet. Bill must've realised that Paul doesn't have a clue because there
are already half a dozen (or more) companies that sell access now.
BL> Does he mean the Internet - that has nothing to do with
BL> Gates and M$ anyway
Bob, you know that and I know that. PK doesn't and neither do most of the
idiots out there buying PCs at the moment. When Windows 95 is released, if
it has Internet access software, they (the idiots) will read about this
great gateway to the Information Highway. They'll see the Telecom and
Microsoft names and think, "shit, this is great, I'll sign up".
They won't realise that it's costing 10x as much as someone down the road
:-(
BL> - or his fucking Encarta that's not an encyclopaedia's
BL> arsehole? M$ has no handle on information, and is never
BL> likely to. *Information* comes out of people's minds - not a
BL> dickhead software company.
I've never seen Encarta. I use Groliers. it does what I want and came in a bundle.
BL> It amuses me that the so-called highway already exists,
BL> developing freely all by itself world-wide, and the poor
BL> pollies are running around doing their best to stop it -
BL> screaming pornography and child sex and Christ knows what!
Yeah, Bob Carr is a fuckwit - "We'll deny access to those areas".
That's not really possible if you want to give the kids a chance to find
the information they're looking for by themselves. Of course you can feed
them the information, but then you can do that with books without spending
millions on connections to the Internet and then denying access.
BL> Freedom of information frightens them. They actually believe
BL> that information is power. What a heap of crap that is!
The right information is power Bob. You've just got to know who to blackmail :-)
[chomp]
JG>> Write to your local member of Parliament about it. Seriously,
JG>> he might even be interested :-)
BL> I was talking to a rich genius lawyer the other day, *THE*
BL> man in commercial law, and he was saying that he was the
BL> first to change over to computers. I asked him if he had any
BL> trouble with software. "All the time!" he laughed. ""Why
BL> don't you sue the bastards?" I asked. "It's all the same,
BL> isn't it?" he replied.
Yep, everybody expects software to be buggy. Look at all the warnings given
about x.0 versions.
BL> Bloody hell! Here's a guy who sues companies for a living, and
BL> he's quite happy to get screwed over buggy software.
I don't know if suing them would get anywhere though. Do the laws even
covers things like that?
JG>> That is one thing that I've noticed does annoy people. Being
JG>> out of date so quickly and the software company no longer
JG>> supporting your old version of their product.
BL> My oath! In *their* position I'd recommend the same thing. I'd
[mega-chomp]
Yes, I'd do the same also. It's a legal way to make a very large profit.
Most major software companies make their profits from upgrade sales
nowadays.
