Perhaps it is because you are incapable of complex thought involving the
potential for exploring mitigating circumstances. You, as with most of
those on the Left, have been given your talking points and are therefore
incapable of thinking beyond your marching orders.

That a child belongs to his surviving parent makes for a nice simplistic
sound-bite because it is so intuitevly obvious... but not ALWAYS true. For
example, if that child's surviving parent were a child abuser, it would not
be outrageous for society to remove the child to a more protective
environment.

He is now on our shores and his mother lost her life to get him here... and
he nearly lost his in the process as well. His fate is now also in the
crosshairs of a saadistic dictator not typically known for compassion or
concern for the rights of his people... including fathers rights.

A few weeks out of Elian's life is not too much to ask while we make as
much of an effort as humanely possible to determine -- to the extent
possible -- just what we will be returning this child to.

Most likely he will be returned, but the very least we can ask is to make a
decent and honest effort to understand what we are doing and why. But that
is not being done... and why that is so also should be explored at some
point. (my radar tells me there is more going on behind the scenes than
meets the eye.)
