CH> Just what is WinRadio?
WinRadio is a wide spectrum receiver (500-kHz - 1300 MHz) on a 3/4 size AT
card that plugs into a 16-bit expansion slot of any 386 and higher PC. It
can also be made to work in 8-bit slots and in 286 computers - not sure about
XT's.
It runs from software, the Windows versions of which have a picture of a
sophisticated radio on the screen and you operate it by using the mouse to
click buttons and turn dials. There are also modes of automatic operation.
CH> What equipment besides the computer do you need to use it?
Just an antenna (or antennas) and an external speaker. A sound card is
helpful, but not required.
Pretty cool radio, actually......and it costs under $600. The monthly WORLD
SCANNER REPORT has featured a series of introductory articles on WinRadio and
is now presenting a series of modification articles. Monitoring Times
magazine also had articles on WinRadio.
