BV> Delphi will initially have an RRP of $350 for the CD version. BV> Upgrades from TP will RRP at $280 BL> As soon as I saw VB, I knew that it would cause a revolution in BL> programming. It is *too* nice. I rate it the best M$ program I have BL> ever used, and that includes Word. I guess that Delphi is Borland's BL> first attempt at doing a proper compiler, since Turbo Pascal. It'll BL> need to be good to top VB. Guess what was in my mail-box when I got home late last night...??? Yep. An invitation to the release of Delphi ! BL> My only experience of Borland is C++ 3, and it is a heap of shit. It BL> is so bad I keep thinking I am doing something wrong. I keep saying, BL> this can't be right! It's not Borland C per-se. The real problem is that none of the developers of C compilers have really looked at VB. The quick look they do have wouldn't show it's real power. This is where they all fuck up. BL> I still can't believe that when I want to run a C program, I have to BL> wait 20-seconds while the bloody thing recompiles and links something BL> I've only added a comma to! VB does it in a flash! Because VB already has everything loaded. All it needs to do is to start interpreting what is already in RAM. BL> They have two compilers: one for the final .exe that takes 20 BL> seconds, and a run-time compiler that is instantaneous. I've already explained why the run-time is instantaneous. The reason for the 20-second delay with the pseudo EXE creation process is because is needs to turn everything into tokens for the interpreter and it then needs to append it to some startup code which loads the VBRUNx00.DLL which actually runs it. BL> I am certainly interested - if only to shaft Microsoft for naming BL> something BOB, and if Delphi writes faster assembler and lets me write BL> ASM in line, and has a better set of functions than VB's simple-minded BL> lot, then $300 would not be too much to pay. $800 is a joke! ROFL!! VB Professional is about $695 from memory... BL> I keep discovering that everything is shit easy. At every new step, BL> I suffer "is this all there is?" syndrome. True. Sometimes it can be like that. Then there are times when it isn't anywhere as easy. The worst of all is when you have spent a few days writing something really tricky and at the end it works but you don't know how the fuck it does it. This actually happens more often than you would imagine. Regards, Brenton @EOT: ---* Origin: TestPoint (3:711/934.7) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
