 Ahh.. Ok. It does mention the gp, but using a ring as a gp could be

 Actually I had the thought that depending on just how large the
roof of a persons vehicle is, you could (with a bit of tweaking)
pass one off as a luggage rack. Come to think of it, I think that's
what the gov't used on some vehicles. Most notable the semi's
hauling weapons cargo.
 And your right about a large area, the dimensions given for the
160M version calls for a diameter of 39ft and 5 or 6in tubing.
