It was built by Grumman as a carrier based interceptor. No production 
numbers, just a few experimentals. The Army Air Forces tried it also as the 
P-50, (I think) with tricycle gear. Both are covered in some detail in the 
Grumman history book that I have. Be glad to look up any & all details that 
you might need.
