My HDT was different, although it had strange steering. BV> It wasn't linear. The VR steering is linear which may make it a BV> bit more manageable. Was your HDT Commodore a VL ?? I love the VL's power steering, especially when compared to the XC Fairmont GXL 5.8l V8 I had immediately beforehand (and sold when petrol got to 53 cents per litre!). The Ford's trick suspension handled OK, but what's the point when the steering is so spongy?). I could be wrong (and I'm not about to go downstairs and crawl under my car to check) but I think the VLs used rack and pinion steering, which possibly explains the excellent handling and response from the steering wheel.
