subject: HOON! rides again

BV> I gave it a poke going down the hill into the tight bend at
BV> Deadmans Creek. 170kph going in and 175kph going out. The ride
BV> up the hill was interesting, especially at the Church Point
BV> turn off where there is that bump in the road which only lifts
 BV> the passenger side up.

They *must* have inmproved the road since my days - 170K sounds
impossible.

BV> I ran it out to 160kph again on the dual lane section and it
BV> was only doing 2800 RPM. Fuck me, the tacho runs out to 5500
 BV> before it red-lines.

Yair... automatics have a higher overdrive. I do 3300 rpm at 160K in
5th gear, and it'll pull 200K at 4200. It only pulls 200K in 4th at
5000. Mine is red lined at 5500 too, but I've never had it over 5000.
The little 3l straight-six spins well, but there's no point. The
Holden V6 is supposed to bounce valves.

BV> Bloody good thing it pulls up quick. If I hadn't run into him
BV> until the bridge, I would have skirted around him whilst going
BV> over the bridge. I love doing that. The other guy FREAKS ! In
BV> reality you have a perfect line of vision all the way up the
BV> hill on the other side and it's a two lane bridge anyway. So
BV> long as there isn't another car coming the other way, there's
 BV> plenty of room :)

The bridge is the only place to pass... I've been doing that since
my Triumph Herald days. How does it go on the hairpins? IRS tends to
wind up a bit on hairpins and bounce the inside wheel... unless it's
done right. That was the one thing I noticed about the Skyline's solid
axle and Watt's link - it's better on hairpins.

It's worse on everything else, though :-(

Bob
