I don't know when I'll be able to spare some time to look at it. I've been
working with the fastlst source during the last months, but I did mainly
bugfixing and porting things, I didn't touch the "functionality",
especially nothing that has to do with binary format files like the
nodelist indices. AFAIR I checked in some documentation about v7 together
with the fastlst docs some weeks ago. Did this help you in any way?

That would be ok for me, too. I think the main reason for the compiled
nodelist format was speed when doing lookups. However, nowadays it's no
problem to quickly parse some MB of ascii file with C or any script
language.
