login as admin, and using the backup software restore just the profile
directory tree from the backup you made before trying to install some new
software..

short of that, login as admin, delete the profile (maybe try to save your
outlook mail store or something like that first), login as the user and the
system will create a new profile. All your user specific settings are lost
which is why people run nightly backups but most software should be saving
registeration information in the system hive not the user hive so I don't
know how much of a problem this would be.
