Yep. It's a worry. I had the same horrible thought. I'm starting to
think that perhaps I don't want to know when this thing is going to
let go. It may be safer to never actually find out.

Nah, that part will be okay. Holden power steering is quite good in
that regard. You can always feel the road with it, unlike Ford p/s
which is like driving a remote-control car where you can't feel a
thing. I really hate Ford p/s, but I find the feel of Holden's to be
just right.
