BN> When and if we go I will be probably looking at one of the electric
BN> carts that I hear that they have available.
BM> Trouble is, the Parks only have a few of these and there is no way to
BM> reserve them. If they're all gone when you arrive, you're just out of
BM> luck. (Another good reason to get there early.)
I understand that they can be reserved. The wheelchairs are not
always available but the new electric carts are. They are rented
at your hotel when you check in and then added to the hotel bill.
Another advantage for staying on site. The carts are not owned by
Disney but they have an outside contractor supply them for a fee
of $35.00 a 24 hour period.
BN> If they do not then I am going to rent one and take it with me.
BM> There is a company in the WDW area which rents the carts, including
BM> delivery to your hotel, for about the same price as daily rental from
BM> Disney. I don't have the name & address with me here, but I recall
BM> reading it in the new "WDW for Adults" by Rita Aero and will be glad
BM> to look it up for you if needed. This would save you the hassle of
BM> hauling it, if you don't need one en route.
I just wrote anout this in the above paragraph.
BM> BTW, Rita's new Guidebook is much improved from her previous good
BM> work, and now rivals the "Unofficial Guide", IMNSHO. Of course,
BM> having Fido
BM> Disney's own Mickey, Minnie, and Meecelet as technical advisors
BM> probably helped a lot!
I will ahve to see if I can get one of the books when it gets
closer to where we can go. If is not going to be this fall as
work is very sparce for us right now. I hope to have something
full-time in the next few weeks.
BM> Hey, I'm not sure how far *I* will be able to walk some days. The
BM> benefits of wheels should not be underestimated by anyone with the
BM> slightest lack of confidence in their own pegs. It can make all the
BM> differece between a short unpleasant trip and a full week of Magic!
I am going to have to really talk Kay into using one but I know
with her breathing problems and leg problems it would take us two
hours just to get down the Main Street.
BM> I have found the off-property busses almost as convenient as those
BM> on-property, but the longer ride times discouraged me from going back
BM> to the room when I really should have. The advice so often heard to
BM> retire to your hotel for an afternoon nap is one I would recommend to
BM> anyone.
I had a bad experience with the busses to the Holiday Inn so I do
not want to go through that again. When I need to go back to the
room I need to go and can't wait the time that it takes to get
the onsite transportation there. When it is busy we might not be
able to get on the next bus and like it happened with my parents
every bus that came was filled and if it wasn't the people there
were so pushy that even if you was at the front of the line you
could not get on.
BM> You get your best bang per buck by getting to the turnstyles about an
BM> hour before the Park officially opens, when the mid-day crowd starts
BM> to get to you, head for the hotel and a rest. As the daytime crowd
BM> thins
BM> at dinnertime, head back to the Park and enjoy the cooler evening
BM> hours. (This next trip, I may even *take* my advice!)
That is what I heard. Most of our trips was made in two days and
all day each day. It was way too much to do in such a short
period of time. Also that was before the the other parks were
open. At one point Kay and I were talking about renting a
motorhome and drive down but that was before my heart problems
and I don't think I could drive that far again.
BM> I doubt that would help much, except that they might be willing to
BM> ferry you back to your hotel if you give out. The times I had health
BM> trouble, no one ever asked me if I was staying on-property.
There are medical advantages to staying on property. There is a a
doctor of nurse on duty 24 hours a day that can take care of any
health problems. If I have my own scooter or one that is rented
at teh hotel from the outside company then I will be given direct
transportation to the park and actually driven right into the
park so that I would miss many of the crowds. The only thing is
that I would miss the monorail rides.
