I've just finished rep2pkt, so all that's left is the bit in the
middle - Zmodem. There a nice freeware one (fwz). What I mean to do
next, is fiddle with someone else's Zmodem (maybe Paul's if he ever
finishes it), and instead of using Telix and salt files, I'll do the
comms in VB. I haven't done anything about the editor yet.

This is just for my own edification. I have no faith in Shareware
as a money earner, and I'm using VB/DOS because it fits better as a
replacement for TinyPoint as it stands. I agree that a Windows TPoint
would be nice, and it would not be hard to convert to VB/WIN (there is
an automatic converter). If I do it manually, I'll end up rewriting
the whole thing - it's the way I am!

The only bit missing is the MKS$ converter for the ndx files. VB/DOS
has the function on tap. I've written some code for that, but it needs
to be done in ASM because it's a bit slow and it gets used a lot. I
might make that my first foray into the weird and wonderful world of
TASM.

A Windows TinyPoint would be nice, but you'd be lucky to get $100 in
shareware registrations. You might be able to link TinyPoint to
BlueWave and OLX for instance, and pick up some bucks that way. They
did an outrageous ripoff of BlueWave with the Windows version, and it
seems to have worked for them with instant recognition.

I reckon the real big seller has to be Internet, nowadays.

... [later]

I've been sending commands to the modem and ringing myself up, and
it seems to work rather easily. This comms crap is a packet of piss
but it seems to spend most of its time waiting for something to happen.
I fill up the output buffer and send it, and then I keep looking in
the input until somethoing appears, and I read it. Is there another
way to wait without being in a loop?

It seems to me that the computer is tied up in these tight little
loops waiting for something to come back, when it could be knitting
me a rubber sex doll or doing the ironing. Is there a way you can
get it to have a quick look every 100mS or so, rather than whizzing
around continuously? I've tried using the event timer, but that
doesn't work unless I have something for it to do in the meantime
(like a fucking idle loop whcih sort-of defeats the whole idea). I
need a way to suspend the program for 100mS and then come back.

But other than that, it's pretty straightforward, especially to
just send and pickup pkt mail. The modem does all the hard bits.

Regards,
Bob
