Circuit thumbnails, I suppose you'd call then. The kind of thing
you come across and jot down in your notebook for when you might
need one of them.

There was one site where had a lot of these circuits, usually
using one to four transistors or one or two ICs.

They were divided into categories, audio, video, RF, computer,
and so on.

Each circuit was illutrated with a GIF and a brief but good
description of how it worked.

One typical circuit I remember was an FM detector using an quad
open-collector (NAND? NOR?) gate chip, and about 8 passive
components. That gives you an idea of the kind of thing.

I had three or four such sites on my hotlist.

I can't remember for sure where I gathered them from, possibly
from an article in the now defunct Electronics Australia.
When I can dig out the old issues I've stored away, I'll have to
search through them.... where does all the spare time go????
