I've got a pretty good idea of what video production facilities and
talent are available in major US cities, as well as Vancouver and
Toronto; a constant stream of articles, production guides and so on
makes it easy to keep up to date. But I don't have any feeling for
how much production and postproduction work for film and video is done
outside North America. I know that London is renowned for being a
center of publishing (though much of the actual printing has left the
city) and the world's marketplace of ideas before New York become
prominent. Also a lot of music work is done there. But what about
video? With European countries having government run TV, I can't
picture the appetite for programming and advertising in Europe being
close to the size of the American market on broadcast, cable and
satellite TV. Also I've heard that in India, more films are
produced annually than in Hollywood, but most are low-budget,
low-profile little stories that are cheap to make and don't
need to have big sales to recover the investments. Anyway, if anyone
knows how London and other cities outside North America are regarded
as production centers, I'd be grateful for your comments.
