It's happened just North of the 49th parrallel - we here in Canada are
automatic criminals as of January 2001, if we have not registered every
type of firearm we own (assuming we own any).
Wrapped up in this nasty Bill is a bundle of invasive privileges for
police forces to "inspect" premises without first obtaining a court
provided search warrant.
The police can trespass and search my house based on rumor that I may
have an un-registered firearm.
As of January 1, 2001, we in Canada, will not be able to purchase
ammunition, or even fire our gopher guns on private lands, without a
"possession only" permit. To do so is to be a criminal.
Therefore as of January 2001, the ranks of criminals in Canada will
swell - the violent crime rate and other areas will not, but god law
abiding citizens who have not registered their firearms will be
criminals. For the first time in history, criminals will be paying
taxes.
So Oregonians, and others in the free USA, do what you can, as early as
you can, to quash these motions to register firearms.
It is totally another item to require a permit to purchase a firearm, if
this is a simple criminal record check, so be it - but be careful - that
is how the slippery slope started here.
