MORRIS, James. Born 8 Aug 1817, Ashby-de-la-Zouch,
Leicestershire, England; d. 16 Mar 1904, Cape Town, South
Africa. Was a trader in Namaland, Namibia. A sister or niece
may have married STEWARDSON. Was there any connection with
Abraham Morris, leader of the Bondelswarts rebellion? Looking
for any information about relations, especially Stewardson
connection. There is a reference in E. Tabler's "Pioneers of
South West Africa and Ngamiland" to a Thomas MORRIS, who traded
in Namibia, and had a nephew of the same name. All connections
of any of the above sought. He was also said to have had a
brother William. The Morris family seem to have also lived in
Wynberg in the Western Cape, and to have been butchers, trading
with St Helena and Ascension Islands.
