JO> I have noticed that watermelons with big yellow areas are likely
to be flavor-free, but every all-green melon has tasted good.
MS> I cannot find any rationalization to your claim of a watermelon
"...with big yellow areas being likely to be flavor-free." At
least not with my taste preferences.
I've found that the bigger the yellow spot, the more the red
part inside tastes like the inner side of the rind. OTOH, a
watermelon too dark on the outside can be mushy inside.
MS> I've found that visiting a "Produce Market" tends to offer far
superior selections when purchasing fruits and vegetables.
JO> Unfortunately there aren't many of those where I live, and the
few that do exist don't necessarily sell wholesome food.
MS> Really? I find that somewhat odd. Especially if they're
exclusively in the fruits and vegetables business!? If you feel
that what they are selling is not considered wholesome food, what
is it that you feel is missing?
What's usually missing is a stationary building because the typical
small green grocer here either sells only gourmet items or is located
temporarily at a vacant street corner and operating out of a truck
(often a rental). I once even saw shrimp being sold from a van.
