subject: 50.000.000 million Elvis fans and the Belgian Idol-programme

http://www.banana-club.org/in-concert/index.htm

The regular fans of "In Concert" may be left wondering about this
week's selection but as the album title once said "50.000.000
Elvis-fans can't be wrong", so here's the King.

In 1972 I passed on a Greyhound bus through Las Vegas and saw
the billboards announcing Elvis Presley was performing there. For
a moment I played with the idea of just getting-off the bus and
buying a ticket. The price was nothing compared with today's
exorbitant prices for often mediocre acts. Just slightly more
than US$10.00. Heck Disneyland did cost US$12.00 then. Anyway,
I decided against going to the concert, something which today
I've come to regret because he was still in shape then.

Elvis was also in shape roughly 3 months later when on January
14th 1973 he went on-stage for his famous "Aloha from Hawaii"
concert which was broadcast live. Rumour has it that the concert
was broadcast live all over the world in a satellite-transmission
but we now know this is not so as it only hit the screens some days
later in Europe in an edited form. Indeed, the show was performed
several times in Honolulu and what we now know as "the concert"
in fact is a compilation of several concerts.

Anyway, I saw the original broadcast in Belgium and was caught by
it that time in 1973. As a result "In Concert" is releasing 2
tracks that made an ever-lasting impression.

The first-one is "American Trilogy", an impressive musical
compilation. On request by one of the loyal fans from Seattle,
Washington the second track "Suspicious Minds" from the same
concert is added as well.

There are people who will question this week's selection but
there's more on the music-scene than what has been shown here
so far. This again is something new.

Although the "Aloha from Hawaii" concert is available via commercial
VHS-video- and DVD-releases it is hoped nevertheless you will enjoy
this compilation which was pulled from the original broadcast-tape.
Later releases of the concert have omitted several tracks such as
"Johnny B. Good" so when buying it first check if everything's on
there.

Then my kids got me to watch our local version of "Idol" last week.
The deal was that 4 girls went on-stage to catch the last ticket for
the group of "10" that would make it down the programme. There was
this 17 year old sweet thing who in my eyes was the best but she was
dropped by televoting, not enough family-members I guess, too small
fanclub or low on funds to jam the phones. Anyway, "In Concert"
affords her this small moment of celebrity status. It's Sarah with
"I'm like a bird".

And while we're at it, just to show we've got our bunch of
"Idol"-people who don't understand their own limitations, or
perfectly understand their only chance to fame lies in one minute
of humor ... here are the 10 "most interesting" Belgians.
