| subject: | Let It Snow... 1A. |
on 04-20-09 23:02: Ardith Hinton to James Bradley re: Let It Snow... 1A. AH> Yes, I've also found certain PT's more helpful than others... AH> but for me at least the information component is very AH> significant. You're dealing with some rather unusual AH> circumstances, just as we are. And unless you understand a AH> lot more about anatomy & physiology than yours truly you AH> may need a bit of help from others who do! Many people AH> seem to be hoping for a magic bullet, and feel disappointed AH> when they don't get instant results from physiotherapy. I AH> find if I neglect my shoulder exercises that they are doing AH> some good. I've noticed an improvement since a physio AH> showed me a better way of lifting Her Nibs too. :-) Do I want to know what "Her Nibs" are? I would suspect PTs see two distinct attitudes. Those that want to bank as much information as they can about their situation in order to facilitate some healing strategies, and those who only want to to discredit the PT at every opportunity. I pulled a 'fast one' on this last fella when I was asked what I wished to gain out of these sessions. I looked at the clock and said, "By six-thirty, I expect to be on the dance floor, leaping over small buildings... Faster than a speeding bullet..." JB> [...] my mechanics were as good as can be expected, AH> I guess that's about where I'm at. My left AH> shoulder still reminds me it's there, and I need to be a AH> bit cautious about how I use it. But I have the same range AH> of motion I have in my right shoulder now & it doesn't hurt AH> as much. That's a bankable gain! You've managed to stem the flow, and you have tools to plug the hole. I was on the shovel yesterday, and made a concerted effort to use my affected leg. It's still not getting past the neuroma. As an aside, I get another three free sessions to look at spinal disks I've been bulging with my efforts. JB> [...] one to aggravate the nerve, AH> To teach your brain how to interpret signals from the AH> nerve... as one does with a person who has had a stroke... or to get to AH> a point where the brain learns to ignore the sensation to AH> some degree because it's always present? I'm a bit out of AH> my depth here, but I can relate to either in various AH> ways.... :-) The term "Break the scar tissue" came up with the amputation specialist too. It feels more like breaking nerve fibers. AH> Yes... I suspect many of us do in the course of our daily AH> activities. I used to chuckle about folks who would pay $$$ AH> for gym memberships while I was carrying laundry up & down AH> stairs, grovelling on the floor taking Nora's splint off or AH> putting it on, etc. But somebody pointed out to me that AH> women often use the muscles at the *front* of the shoulder AH> for such tasks, while the muscles at the *back* of the AH> shoulder tend to suffer from neglect. Oops! Mea culpa. ;- AH> ) You're not signing up for that gym membership tax credit? As a bachelor, do I get 'credit' for doing all jobs poorly? JB> Get this... I just fished out two cylindrical items that JB> fell into the clothes dryer lint filter receptacle. AH> You forgot to check your pockets before washing AH> your jeans, or missed a couple of dimes?? Been there, done AH> that... [wry grin]. No... When I pulled out the filter from the top of the case, its corner tipped a brass rod, and pen into its receptacle, bypassing the filter and cage. ...Just like me to improve on a catastrophe. /-: AH> female friend from high school told Dallas & me a few years AH> ago. She'd had quite enough of her washer or dryer... I AH> forget which now... but her husband was away on a business AH> trip. So she somehow muscled the thing up the basement AH> stairs & into the back yard all by herself. I'm inclined AH> to react the same way. That may be one reason I like both AH> of you... [chuckle]. My kinda gal! Considering her good taste in friends however, I'll wager it was the dryer she was maneuvering. Clothes washers are likely (more than) twice the weight, and even I had to put mine into pieces before I could horse it up the stairs. Unless your friend used a winch... (I think I told you about my two-turn buckle arrangement to coheres a old cash register, and AC generator up dad's stairs?) Your friend wouldn't have reached the bottom of the steps before she realized the *gravity* of the situation. JB> in hopes the item would roll out, AH> Seek & ye shall find! AH> ... that's how it generally works for me. But sometimes I AH> get a bonus.... :-) My "bonus" was a busted hinge on the door. PS: Considering the title to this message, snow flew all around us a couple of nights ago! That's apropos for my kinda home-town. ...
