HI everybody. After a three day chill (and I don't mean weather) I
think I am ready to report an incredible but true exemplary example of
brain screaming "abled" ignorance. I'm editing out typed in expletives
as I proofread for the oft said appreciate sake of brevity and
self-rewarding nobel deed of self-restraint.

Once again as with the wheel chair clod she came through for us who
must deal with stupid ...bleepity bleep bleeps.

A woman writes to say how when the husband of a very good friend of
hers suffered blindness due to illness the wife went out of her way to
accommodate her stricken husband. She wore a perfume so he'd always know
where she was in the house, rearranged the furniture for his
convenience etc etc... When he passed away she confessed to this
woman she did not want to go through that again...) But the woman
ignored this. She and and her husband set her (the widow) up on a
date with a blind friend they all knew. Thinking that since she did
such a wonderful job taking care of her blind HUSBAND (note emphasis) she
would be an ideal match for this blind friend. So this woman and her husband
invited the blind friend to dinner, and the widow too... When the
widow came into the room.... and was introduced to the blind friend
she said , No thanks you and walked out and asked the blind friend to
leave. The woman asks Ms. Manners if her widowed friend wasn't rude
and what to do about it..

Whoa baby!!! Did Judith light into her or what! AND GOOD TOO! I tell
you Bravo to her! Standing ovation and I MEAN IT. I am in fact going
to write to her and thank her for her attempts to set the truly
Disabled straight about disabilities. We are NOT defined by our
disabilities. We are not DIsabled people, we are people with
disabilities.

Ms. Manners pointed out to this """well
meaning""""" match maker HER
breaches of etiquette. The one assuming the widow and the blind man
would hit it off just because he's blind ..... as if ! And how she
asked the poor guy to leave, hungry.. That had to take the cake too.
Just picture it.

I hope that ""well meaning""" dolt and her husband
learned a lesson!
They owe both the widow and the blind friend a big apology!

But what can you do about such people who really ARE the true
disabled: between the ears!
