subject: extended memory

PL> DT> is there a way to use extended memory for programs without using
 PL> DT> protected mode ?
PL> Sure: use the eXtended Memory Specification (XMS). Here's what you
 PL> can do using XMS:
 PL> XMS (Int 2F/43; Multiplex)
 PL> INT 2F - INSTALLATION CHECK AX = 4300h
PL> Return: AL = 80h XMS driver installed
 PL> AL 80h no driver
and so on... for which i am very thankful;)
Does this driver access extended memory by temporarily switching to protected
mode? and if it doesnt then how can it access extended memory?
also the exe file header seems to be 512 bytes long but documentation only
covers the first 30 or so bytes, what does the rest of the exe header
ntain?
Life is a bitch ( i know i know very original)
