It usually isn't the radio. I have more problems with mobile antennas,
cables and the "repeater" end than with most of the mobile radios themselves.
Around here we deal with a lot of Motorola equipment, and I'd rather see the
blue "M" on a radio than anything else.

It takes constant attention to keep 800 MHz - trunked or conventional -
working right. Water getting into antennas and lines is a real problem. A
little dampness and dirt that has negligable effect at VHF or UHF really
messes up the works at 800. This should clue everyone in to use lots of
waterproofing on their outside scanner antennas!
