subject: Using PB/DLL 2.0 with OS/

From: brianm@ims.com (Brian McLaughlin)
Subject: Using PB/DLL 2.0 with OS/2

I don't yet own PB/DLL (in any version), and I don't yet program
Windows (in any version). But I am interested in the idea of
buying PB/DLL v2.0 and making a foray into Win programming. At
US$60, it looks like a bargain to me.

I noticed that some claims are made for PB/DLL being "compatible"
with OS/2. I presume this means nothing more than that OS/2 usually
comes with Win31 support, and therefore it can run a PB/DLL-generated
EXE in a Win31 session under OS/2. (BTW, I think it is ProVantage
that makes the claim -- I can't recall any ads from PB, Inc.
mentioning OS/2.)

However, I'd like that clarified, since I have an interest in
VisualAge for BASIC for OS/2 and Windows (affectionately known as
VABFOS/2AW, or VAB for short). I would love to know with certainty
if I could use PB/DLL2 to make DLLs that I could call from VAB?

Barring that, how should go about learning to use PB/DLL2 to make
DLLs and EXEs for Win31? Books? Tools? URLs? Any pointers or tips
will be gratefully accepted.

It may turn out that the proper solution is to use the "for Windows"
aspect of VABFOS/2AW, and use PB/DLL2 from that end. Hmmmm. Sounds
crazy, but it might work.
