I built a Heathkit dipper many years ago, (one of the few things I still
have after too many moves, break-ins and theiving landlords). :-<

Not necessarily. I have a copy of the 1979 handbook, (AKA "Ham's bible"),
which shows the construction of a 2-transistor dipper on pages 16-17 to
16-19. If you want, I suppose I could get it copied and send it to you.
I would appreciate a SASE and maybe a little to cover the cost of copying.
If you want to discuss this, please netmail me. -OR- I have found that
the engineering departments of most broadcast stations keep a copy of the
handbook on the shelf for reference. You could check your local radio/TV
stations to see if they have a copy that has a dipper in it. They would
probably be happy to run you off a copy for free. (Charge it to public
relations).   :-}

Or if your local public library doesn't have a copy of the handbook, they
could certainly get one on inter-library loan.

I would LOVE to get my claws on a MFJ-259 - the meter of a thousand uses!
But $259.95 (AES price), is WAYYY out of my league! I estimate it's going
to take me at least 6 months to save enough to buy the 2M/440 radio I want
so I can do a little DXing and be more ready for any emergencies that come
along. (We have lots of tornados around here, and other major
emergencies - such as plane crashes which my ARES chapter also trains
for - are not unheard of.)
