subject: ALMS: Dyson leads the way in Saturday practice

By Nancy Schilke - Motorsport.com

The final practice before qualifying is used by the teams for setup to get
the best time and a good grid position.

Dyson Racing's James Weaver and Butch Leitzinger have been the fastest in
every session including yesterday's test day. Can they hold that with the
stiff competition from the two Audi R8s and their own team car?

In the final practice, the No. 16 turned a lap at 1:09.073, the fastest time
thus far. The Team Joest Audi of Frank Biela and Marco Werner were second
overall but first in the LMP900s at 1:09.974. Would they overtake the
LMP675 of Dyson during qualifying to sit on the pole?

Champion Racing's Audi was clocked at 1:10.586 with Johnny Herbert and JJ
Lehto sharing the driving for third overall.

The No. 11 JML Team Panoz was fourth with a time of 1:11.933 for teammates
Gunnar Jeannette and David Saelens, their team car did not practice but will
be out for qualifying.

Intersport Racing's Jon Field and Duncan Dayton was second in LMP675 with a
best lap at 1:12.025. The No. Dyson Racing Lola did not practice.

In GTS, the Ferrari's turned the tables on the earlier gauntlet led down by
Corvette Racing. Tomas Enge and Peter Kox put the No. 88 out in front at
a time of 1:15.162.

Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell in the No. 3 Corvette Racing had a best lap
at 1:15.164. Teammates Oliver Gavin and Kelly Collins was third best time
in the No. 4 Corvette, they were clocked at 1:15.241.

The No. 80 Prodrive Ferrari was next with a time at 1:15.437 for David
Brabham and Jan Magnussen.

GT had the Alex Job Racing Porsche's on top with Lucas Luhr and Sascha
Maassen fastest at 1:19.540, the No. 24 driven by Timo Bernhard and Jorg
Bergmeister turned a lap at 1:20.335.

Orbit Racing's Peter Baron and Marc Lieb put their Porsche in third at a
time of 1:20.701.

Orbit Racing put on a show for the front straight crowd here at Mosport when
Baron? spun coming out of the final turn onto the straight. He kept the
Porsche off the wall and continued.

Near the halfway mark of the second practice session, Biela went for a
special "parade" lap a flatbed in the Team Joest Audi R8 after he spun
exiting turn two. The Audi slid into the tire wall at three after sliding
in the grass. Biela did minor surface damage to the car and appeared to
relax as the flatbed returned to the pits with Biela in the cockpit waving
to the large number of fans at Mosport.

The morning practice saw the LMP 675 No. 16 Dyson Racing on the top of
the leaderboard. Weaver/Leitzinger clocked a time at 1:09.187 (127.949
mph) slightly under the time they set in Friday's test session.

Turning a faster time than yesterday, Champion Racing Audi was second
overall, first in LMP 900 this morning at 1:10.000 (136.463 mph) with
Herbert/Lehto. The Team Joest Audi was timed at 1:10.555 (125.468 mph).
Werner and Biela were slower than yesterday's best time.

The second Dyson Racing No. 20 improved from yesterday putting them
fourth overall, second LMP 675, Wallace/Dyson's best time was 1:10.780
(125.069 mph). The third fastest LMP 675 was the Intersport Racing Lola
driven by Field and Dayton at a time of 1:12.118 (122.749 mph).

The JML Team Panoz was fifth fastest (third for the LMP 900 class) at
1:12.700 (121.766 mph). Jeannette and Maxwell share the driving duties.

The morning's battle between the Corvettes and Ferraris in GTS had the
Corvette Racing team cars in the lead. Gavin/Collins had a best time
at 1:14.863 (118.248 mph) while Fellows and O'Connell were clocked at
1:15.208 (117.706 mph) - both faster than Friday's test times.

The two Prodrive Ferrari team cars were faster today as well, sitting
third and fourth. The No. 80 of Brabham/Magnussen had a time of 1:15.741
(116.877 mph) , the No. 88's best time was 1:15.998 (116.482 mph) with
Kox and Enge.

In GT, Alex Job Racing rose back to the top, the No. 23 Porsche clocked
a time of 1:19.767 (110.978 mph) by Luhr and Maassen. Bernhard and
Bergmeister were second in the No. 24 with a time of 1:19.813 (110.914
mph).

Kelleners and Lazzaro were just a bit faster than yesterday at 1:20.416
(110.083 mph) in the Risi Competizione Ferrar placing them third in the
class.

The red flag came out once in the morning session when Carsport America
Viper lost the hood at turn five.
