A couple of folks have suggested that MR utility? Something like that,
anyhow. Trying that at a command prompt gives me this:

E:\MAX3>mr

MR Maximus *.MSG Maintenance Program Version 3.01
Copyright 1991, 1999 by Lanius Corporation. All rights reserved.

Format:

    MR [options] [area...]

[area...] are one or more area names to be renumbered. For typical use, to
renumber all areas, run:

    MR all

The supported options are:

-m - use as the message area data file
-p - use the PRM file from instead of MAXIMUS
environment var
