subject: DTM: Nurburgring: Opel qualifying report

With the premiere of 'Super-pole at night', three Opel drivers will take
part in the final qualifying. Manuel Reuter (OPC team Holzer) was fifth in
first qualifying, teammate Alain Menu sixth and Peter Dumbreck (OPC team
Phoenix) was seventh in the 40 minute qualifying that was a hard-fought
battle for the individual timed laps in super-pole.

For the fifth time in seven races, three Opel drivers compete in the
super-pole. Peter Dumbreck has so far been in every session, Manuel Reuter
for the third time and Alain Menu for the fifth time for the final decider
for the top ten grid positions.

Volker Strycek, Opel motor sport director:

"Three Opels in the first night-time super-pole, from places five to seven,
that is good. Now we look forward to the event tonight. The pictures of
night practice on Friday were fascinating. In qualifying we were strong and
our last runs worked out well."

Manuel Reuter, (OPC team Holzer) 5th, 1:25.435

"We made some slight changes that worked well and it got better lap by lap.
The balance of the car was right and I could make it work."

Alain Menu, (OPC team Holzer) 6th, 1:25.498

"We didn't change anything on the car. On the first laps there was little
front grip but with the next tyres it ran better than before."

Peter Dumbreck, (OPC team Phoenix) 7th, 1:25524

"In the early stages I had an error in the chicane with the new tyres. Then
we tried it on used tyres but it didn't work. In the end I drove three fast
laps."

Jeroen Bleekemolen, (OPC Euro Team)13th, 1:26105

"In the first two runs I constantly improved. Unfortunately in the third
attempt I couldn't do better than the first two. The mechanics did great
work."

Timo Scheider, (OPC team Phoenix) 14th, 1:26.113

"In the first try I made a mistake in the chicane and after some changes,
the second try was not any better. We changed some things again and it was
better but not good enough."

Joachim Winkelhock, (OPC Euro Team) 15th, 1:26.120

"Even if we could fix the slight understeer we would still be perhaps two
tenths off but it doesn't justify the large gap. I can't explain it."
