Forget about language... and dictionaries.  The term node is a technical
one, and not just with Fidonet in mind, in both programming (tree
structures) and communication (message routing) theory and practice.

A node represents a potential Fido system (i.e. 'mailer') to connect with. 
That's all there is to it.
