hey, what are you doing over in prog rock? Welcome home.
:-)
I confess you caught me out, posting a copy of Gib I
hadn't read first, however, hereby hangs a tale:
KN> ..a German prog group called "Epitaph."
RM> Wow, I've been listening to Epitaph for ages!
So have I, since about 1974.
KN> They're a "Wishbone Ash" knock-off band..
RM> Never thought of them in quite that way, but that's a pretty accurate
RM> description, I suppose.
In sound, yes, they had that guitar harmony thing down
and a driving attack which WA had at their best. However,
they *looked* like some sort of proto-gothic speed metal
band. Back in '74.
RM> Kenneth; if anything comes of this, you will post it in PROG, right?
RM> I have only _Outside the Law_, but really enjoy it.
I, too, only had that one album. I bought it in 74 from a
delete bin, knowing nothing about them. I ended up
learning all the guitar licks on it and it was (partially
guilty pleasure) one of my fave albums for cranking up
and playing along with. They seemd to have been some sort
of a German band with a Chicago (city, not band)
connection. I lost the LP back in 76 and have been trying
to replace it ever since. I recall enjoying the album a
lot. Not prog of course, but speaking of a German/US
Midwest connection, there was a thing back in the 70's
that fed German bands into the Illinois/Wisconsin nexus.
I remember hearing about a tour Guru Guru did of
Wisconsin where supposedly they all ended up staying and
buying Harleys and becoming a mini-motorcycle gang,
shades of that Herzog movie "Strozzeck."
ObProg: Guru Guru did a really fine live album.
Cheers,
Kenneth
