subject: Hello

JANE KELLEY was thinking about Hello and keyed into cyberspace:
JK>MP>ADHD is often misdiagnosed. Many little girls with ADD never get
JK>MP>diagnosed until later in life. Many boys grow up ADHD and are just
JK>MP>thought of as rotten kids.
JK>MP>Parents who do not want to come to grips with reality call it an
JK>MP>allergy.
JK>Since this theory is shared by medical folks as well, just how many
JK>of the children who are diagnosed with ADD or ADHD get testing for
JK>allergies? In fact, how many children with "behavior problems" get
JK>any physical testing at all of any kind?
JK>The answer is they don't.
Jane, just how do YOU know that they aren't? The DSM has always
indicated that physical reasons for the behaviors should be ruled out.
Now, just how do you think that is done? (clue: comprehensive physical
examinations rule out physical causes.)
And remember, if the behaviors are caused by something physical, then it
is not ADHD.
If they are lucky enough to make it to
JK>adulthood then they are free to go find someone who will take the
JK>time to do a complete genetic history and understand all of the
JK>problems they may be at risk for.
That is part of a comprehensive physical evaluation. So, it has been
done. Bet you are happier that I pointed that out to you.
JK>There is no doctor around here known for treatment of children of
JK>genetic alcoholics. There are doctors who treat adult addicts AFTER
JK>they become evident.
Jane, you used to tell us that the docs around you were the experts. Did
they all move?
BTW, this conference is ADHD, not the Genetic Alcoholics conference. So,
please stay on topic.
JK>I'd say that this is a big lack in our health care system, one
JK>designed to get and keep people sick on a large scale.
Hogwash.
JK>I live close to Seattle which does have both teaching hospitals
JK>connected with medical and nursing schools as well as ordinary ones.
JK>There is no one there who can read a P.E.T. scan for "mental
JK>disorders".
I see. What "mental disorders" show up on a P.E.T. scan? And your
teaching hospitals do not have board certified radiologists? That is
truly amazing.
JK>That is also a big hole in our health care system, one that keeps
JK>the true diagnosis of "mental disorders" the practice of witchcraft
JK>in comparison to using a physical test for definitive diagnosis.
Well, you have certainly shown us where there is a big hole.
JK>The closest place that does this sort of work is Stanford, in CA.
JK>Not too many folks from the Puget Sound region get sent down there
JK>for a P.E.T. or cat scan when they show up with "mental health'
JK>problems.
I understand that they are building a canal to connect Stanford and
Puget Sound.
JK>Nope. We prefer to keep the ignorance and superstition rather than
JK>do anything sane and sensible about the problem.
You have clearly demonstrated that for the umteenth time.
