| subject: | IPS: Simmons wires Kentucky field |
By John Humason - Motorsport.com Jeff Simmons took his second Infiniti Pro Series win of the season today, winning the Kentucky 100 at Kentucky Speedway. Simmons led from start to finish and fought off a late challenge from Cory Witherill, who finished 2nd. Thiago Medeiros raced in the front pack all day, made a couple of challenges on Simmons' lead, and finished 3rd. Simmons had qualified second for the Kentucky 100, but a late scratch from the field from series points leader and pole winner Mark Taylor allowed Simmons to start from the pole. Much to his relief, most of the race's action happened just behind Simmons with exciting battles for the second and third positions. For a large part of the race, Tom Wood and Brandon Erwin had a great fight for the second spot, but it all went wrong on the 50th lap (of 66.) Erwin attempted to pass Wood for the position, diving inside as the cars turned in for turn 3. Erwin's car skated up the banking and hit Wood's car in the side, driving Wood hard into the outside wall. Wood was transported to University of Kentucky Medical Center after the race for examination of pain in both ankles. He is listed as awake and alert and in stable condition. Erwin made several visits to the pits and got a new front wing, but could not continue in the race. --- http://www.motorsport.com -- your source for motorsport news on the Internet --- Synchronet 3.10L-Win32 NewsLink 1.43 --- SBBSecho 2.00-Win32* Origin: There Can Only Be 1 http://www.tcob1.net (2:263/950) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 261/38 140/1 106/2000 633/267 |
