I accidently sent a few blank messages...first time I was online and hit
the key instead of quote, and the second time my modem got unplugged
CS> EDGJ> But there is someone working on TCP for 2.x.
CS> Hadn't heard about that. I REALLY should read the newsgroups.
CS> EDGJ> Forget who offhand.
CS> You're no help. ;-)
I remember now. David Hunter. Next you're going to ask for his email
address...I know it was confusing...
CS> Ah, the good news. Does he know that there is a RhinoComm
CS>for OS/2?
I don't know. Why should he care? His is pronounced with a long e, and I
would think you'd pronounce that with a long i. I think long's the word
I want...
CS> Keep us updated, please.
RenoComm beta 0.10 was just released, with source code. Only emulation
is TTY (just backspace and carrage return). He got the impression that
transfer protocols were more important than terminal emulation, so he's
going to work on them next. But he had a delay recently because he
switched to a more capable text object, and had a few problems in the
process. For some reason the last alpha, which came out after he switch
objects, wouldn't let me type into the text object. But the beta does,
so that's just another one of those bugs that will probably never be
figured out...
Also, beta 2 of BitMapView and the 64k video driver are released.
BitMapView imports 8bit BMPs, GIFs, and PCXs without going through the
impex filters. It's a lot faster. The release version will also do JPG,
TIF, and possibly more. It will allow viewing and conversion. The
biggest advantage to BitMapView is that when used with the 256 color
driver it optimizes the palette for optimum viewing.
The 64k driver is faster than the 256 color driver and works on almost
every system tested on so far. But it does have a bit of screen
corruption. The other problem is that the games are coded to check what
video mode you are using and decide the colors appropriately. But they
don't realize the SVGA modes, so they fall back to monochrome.
Latest and greatest new development...a web browser project has begun!
I'm on the team. I think about half a dozen others are on the team,
including Clemens and Marcus. Marcus supposedly has an HTML viewer
that does everything but graphics. The main problem is GEOS likes you
to have memory blocks between 2 and 6k in size, but most graphics are
larger than that. Not much has been done yet though. It's not
coordinated with the guy doing the TCP stack so I haven't a clue what's
going to be done. The original idea was to have it work with shell
accounts using lynx, but we don't know if that's possible.
