A bowling ball will compress and form quite well if you shave it down 
enough to jam it into the chamber of an 8" artillery gun.  Muzzle 
velocity was reputed to be in the realm of double digit mach number, no 
data on flight ballistics, just low penetration and lots of quick energy 
transfer at the terminal end of the flight.
