Hello all,
> HEEELP!!!!!!!
> Something has gone wrong with my computer.
... fx: panic. Bob runs around in circles. Corgi snaps at his heels.
When I call the PCUG, it connects okay, but instead of English
words, all I get is hi-ASCII garbage on the screen.
It does this with Telemate and Telix both.
If I type in my name and password blind, as I am supposed to do, it
seems to respond, but it just sends me garbage. If I call Microsoft BBS
(this gives you an idea how desperate I am), I get the same hi-ascii
garbage. It's not them, it's me!
I get my mail from Paul okay.
I'm stumped! I don't even know where to start looking, but something
awful has happened. In the dim recesses of my mind I seem to remember
that something like this happened before, years ago, as if I am using
the wrong terminal emulation, but it hasn't changed - and it does the
same on Telemate and Telix, both!
Everything else about this poor old computer seems to be normal...
it just goes queer when I try to connect a BBS. It's the same in
Windows or DOS.
1. How can it work okay from Paul, but not other BBS?
My mail is okay.
2. How can it do it in Telemate and Telix, both?
3. What part of the computer will make the terminal emulation wrong
for everything?
I am totally stuffed. I don't even know where to start looking. I'd
reinstall Telemate, but if it's doing it with Telix too, what's the
point? I'd swap modems, but it works for Paul's mail and FAX.
> HELLLLLP!
Regards,
Bob
