| subject: | ALMS: J3 Racing reinstated to third from Trois-Rivieres |
BRASELTON, Ga. (August 16, 2003) -- The J3 Racing Porsche has been
reinstated to its original third-place finishing position in the GT class in
the August 3 American Le Mans Series Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres. It had
been announced on August 4 that the car was being excluded from the final
race results due to a technical violation.
Officials of the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), the
sanctioning body for the American Le Mans Series, said in the August 4
announcement that the front bumper backing support brackets were not in
place in the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, a violation of 3.3.1 of the 2003 Technical
Regulations of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO). The American Le Mans
Series operates on the technical rules of the ACO, organizers of the 24
Hours of Le Mans.
However, as the result of a protest filed by the entrant, the ACO
homologation for the 2003 model Porsche 911 GT3 RS was reviewed. In the
review, it was determined that the cars were delivered from the factory
without the front bumper backing support beams and brackets, and therefore
the J3 Racing car was deemed to be within the required specifications for
the GT class when it competed at Trois-Rivieres.
"Our review, protest and appeals process is in the IMSA Code for the
benefit of the competitors," said Doug Robinson, Executive Director of IMSA.
"It's always difficult to exclude any of our hard-working race teams from
the results of an event, and in this instance the process provided the
information necessary for the exclusion to be reversed."
David Murry of Cumming, Ga., and Justin Jackson of Alpharetta, Ga.,
co-drove the J3 Racing Porsche in the Trois-Rivieres event.
The American Le Mans Series is at Mosport International Raceway near
Toronto for the Aug. 15-17 Toronto Grand Prix of Mosport.
