| subject: | Senior Moments... 1B. |
On or about: 05-16-08 22:46, Ardith Hinton did engage James Bradley regarding, but not limited to: Senior Moments... 1B. JB> I'll try not to be disjointed. AH> (Pun alert!) No problem... if you were, I didn't notice. AH> Dallas & I have other modem buddies who write in a stream- AH> of-consciousness fashion.... :-) JB> I've spent too much time studying woodwork, and I had my JB> "jointer" on the brain. AH> Hey, I make my best puns by accident.... :-)) I could have been disassembling a chicken too, I suppose. That would have been more logical to my late God-Father. JB> Dad expressed how a mom, died of a broken heart soon JB> after her daughter passed. There were other medical JB> explanations, while clinically correct, they might JB> have missed that issue. AH> Exactly. Science gives us a left-brain answer, folk wisdom AH> gives us a right-brain answer. I think both have their merits.... :-) I would like to think science has a better handle on how the brain can make the body sick. I'll wrap myself in that (perhaps) delusional blanket. AH> [re black humour] JB> get from shocking the "average" citizen. AH> I must admit I get a chuckle out of consciousness-raising AH> too. It's probably better for my own health than feeling AH> resentful about how many others seem to be incapable of AH> connecting the dots. I think there's a lot more to it than AH> that, however. You & George have both come to terms with AH> who you are and what your limitations are. When you're AH> comfortable with these things, you can joke about them. AH> I've always been a bit "different". Once I had accepted AH> the idea that I'd never be "normal", I found a whole new AH> world opening up.... :-) It still gets tiresome when another person asks if I'm OK, that I have to calm them that it's "Business as usual." Then, the following three exchanges have to explain how "This is as good as it gets." and, "The alternatives are worse." and, "No, an operation has a 50% chance of finding nothing, and a 50% chance of making it worse." Someone outside the 'know' can't fathom that the next cosmetic surgery they have, could maim them. Heck, the last time I had the conversation was with a qualified social worker, where I had a rough time in her facility. The next time I went in, I wore my over-alls, with the knee pockets full of neoprene, and she demanded I accept a pillow to "humour" her. /-: AH> [re the embalmer/stonemason] JB> but he was quite a character. He had his own granite JB> stone on display under the memorials sign. Talk about, JB> "Hanging out your shingle." AH> Or "If you want it done right, do it yourself".... ;-) Ya... And check the spelling! Next to his stone, was a botched example, oddly of an English persons name. 80% of our home town spoke Ukrainian as their first language, and the carvers managed to pay special enough attention to the tricky spellings, but missed an easy one. AH> Q. What do you call a musician without a girlfriend? AH> A. "Homeless"... [D&RFC]. If I didn't hurt so much from laughing... You better unlist your phone number! ...
