-> Thank you Elvis. I remember seeing you talk about your bird too. One
I must readily admit that I'm the least bit buggy where my Lilac Crown
is concerned. I can easily sympathize with you about missing Bright
Eyes.
-> of the girls, Rene, over on AIE has a pair of Lilac Crowns now that
-> she hopes to breed.
I wish her much success! They are such trusting little things, once
they KNOW you, you can handle them like you would a hamster. (They're
FIERCE though until you gain their trust!) I've had two, and they were
both delightful. (The first one came to us with a respiratory infection
which we fought for almost a year, only to lose him during a cold snap.)
I gave him daily antibiotic injections for months without his ever
offering to bite me. She'll doubtless get great enjoyment out of hers,
even if they don't produce. (I've seen reports of great personalities
among Lilac Crowns even as breeders.)
-> How is your little dove? I have a flight, about 4X4X6(or8) ft that
He's doing wonderfully! Such a friendly pleasant little booger! Not a
mental giant, but ever so peaceful! Just what my ragged nerves
need in the mornings.... I love Amazons, but LORD! I can do without
the racket!
-> has a small colony of about eight or ten doves, both ringnecked
-> (beige) and barbary (whites). We just sorta inherited them. I haven't
That sounds like my daddy's setup. His flew back and forth all day.
Perches across each end where they'd line up and then all fly down to
the other end. Then bow and scrape and coo, then back to the other end.
They never seemed to tire of it.
-> successfully raised them though. When I tried they were very filthy
-> as were their nestboxes.
Well, they aint real SMART! Mine is systematically destroying the nice
pre-built nest I made him. Just doesn't suit his design parameters....
Doves build such 'nice' nests don'tcha know?
-> the Mexican Redheads actually fed and raised him to two or three
-> weeks)
They are certainly hard workers aren't they! I have a friend with
Redheads and they're GREAT breeders and work hard at it.
BTW, how does a Yellow Crown relate to a DYH? I don't remember ever
knowing a YC? I'm sure he is gonna be a smarty though.... All those
Yellow headed types seem to be. The INS auction had some Yellow Naped
that were smart as the dickens. One of them stole my pencil off my
clipboard as I was standing near their cage. They passed it back and
forth between themselves for quite a while before EATING it....
-> but he is special and easy to get attached to. Very smart. I've never
-> seen a big baby talk this fast.
Heck, just keep him and ENJOY! Life's too short to trade enjoyment for
mere money. (Bad as I could USE $ome.)
