Subject: Emergency Vehicle Operations
TR>You've just listed one of the biggest problems in emergency vehicle
>operations, the public and what they do. Most departments train to slow
nd
>prepare for a stop even at a green light at an intersection. Some people
>panic when they hear the siren, and they do some really odd things that
ou
>have to be ready for. We use sirens now that can almost wake up the dead
and
>lights that the blind can see, but emergency vehicle operations is still a
>very dangerous function for police, fire, and ambulance.
I was out on the interstate when a trooper pulled up behind a vehicle
he wanted to stop and turned on lights.........with no response. He
then hit the siren. I was in the slow lane while they were in the
passing lane and I readily saw a serious problem in the making. When
the idiot in the target car heard the siren, he hit his brakes almost
causing the trooper to rear end him except for the fact that I fell
back and gave the trooper somewhere to go.
