While writing to disk with an engraving tool, Jan went on about Max/2 beeps 
three times during startup to  All

Um, there's 'Old PRM file', whihc means that you haven't SILTed since the 
last time you edited one of the .CTL files. That's the only thing I can think 
of, unless you have [SYSOPBELL] used in your LOGO or WELCOME files.
