Probably looks familiar because that's where he got the basis of most of
the program.  Obviously, Reality Therapy isn't, in and of itself,
practical for use as a schoolwide discipline system.  What Ed has done
is to figure out a way to combine Reality Therapy with some structure
to make a system that can be used by parents & teachers.
Many teachers don't have or take time to read things like Glasser (or
Illich! for that matter, who sounds like a complete waster below even
the level of Paolo Freire.  Thanx for the warning, Michael, I will take
care to avoid him.) Ed condensed Glasser's theories into a step-by-step
guide. It makes it quite quick & easy to deal with compliant & defiant
children alike.
 DH> OBTW...where is/what is the Phoenix Prep Academy?  I was mentioning
The Prep is a public 7th/8th junior high in downtown Phoenix.  We opened
Sept 8, 1992, & will be starting our 5th year in August.  The school
was built with a goal of giving our students a head start in technology.
We are expecting a jump in enrollment of more than 100 students for next
year.
Last year, we became the only school in Arizona to implement a mandatory
uniform dress code & successfully defended a lawsuit on the part of two
students who didn't wish to attend in uniform.  We also were successful
in obtaining a restraining order to forbid those two students
trespassing on school property until they agreed to follow district
policy for our school & attend in uniform.  They didn't agree to do so &
both finished the school year in other schools.

Ask her if she knows where Phoenix Union High School used to be at 7th
St. & Van Buren (It was closed in about 1981.)  Then ask her to remember
when their football field was off 7th St. & Fillmore.  The Phoenix
Municipal Courthouse is now located in the beautiful old high school
buildings across 7th St. & the Prep was built on the land that used to
be the football stadium & the AVC of the Phoenix Union High School
District (Area Vocational Center.)  Monroe School across Van Buren is
now occupied (!) by the Department of Defense.
We have a lovely $25 million campus & it has been a great place to work
for the last 3 years (we try not to focus too much on the first year--it
was not a happy time.)
