G'day John,
When I upgrade a program I copy the original to a TEMP directory, then
install the update as a new copy. This ensures that there are no
conflicting commands between versions etc. Might be worth a try doing
it this way.
You should have plenty of advice from the Board you log on to. :-)
Let us know how you go.
Good talking to you

Have the same problem. To add a little, 4.21 seems to work with some
modems, not at all with others. Have a PPI PM14400FXMT, works fine. A
later version of the Sportster 14,400 Fax/Modem refuses to go off hook
with Telemate 4.21. Some earlier versions of the same modem work at
least some of the time. Very strange indeed. Basically I've stayed
with 4.20.

Any clues would be appreciated. As you suggested, 4.21 was a "clean"
install to its own directory, but the problems persist.
