JF> that an interesting idea for the Duke Nukem Forever soundtrack would
JF> be to get good songs from various bands that fit various levels.
They'd have to pass both the George Filter and the Annoyance Test in order
to get in. Unfortunately, game scoring isn't much like movie scoring.
It's non-linear, first - you can't count absolutely on someone being
somewhere doing something at any exact time. The best you can get is some
level of interactivity through context-sensitive loops/jumps. Second,
music that stands out usually detracts from the game itself. If the game
is what we want people to see first and foremost, then the music has to be
in the background. Most of the tracks you've mentioned are too "in your
face," and would require serious surgery to be backed down to an acceptable
frenzy level without losing their identity. I'm not saying it's
impossible: I'm just saying that it is usually not worth the time and/or
effort. Exceptions happen, though: we haven't even started DNF's music
yet.
JF> - Prodigy (heard "Firestarter?")
I liked their "Voodoo People" better.
JF> - White Zombie (for those scenes on the Harley)
JF> - Chemical Brothers (high-tech maps)
JF> - Orbital (just told you why)
JF> - Daft Punk (just told you why, part 2)
JF> - Dick Dale (for that Pulp Fiction feel)
JF> - Tom Jones (the prerequisite "lounge lizard" music for Vegas)
We've talked a lot about what kind of music Duke himself would have grown
up listening to. Many names have been passed around: I personally believe
he would have been into Pantera and the like.
JF> Hope this helps. Anyhow, speaking of Tom Jones, will you
JF> have "Kung-Fu Fighting" as one of the CD tracks for Shadow Warrior?
Don't know. There will be a rather unexpected surprise on the CD, though.
Unless something went wrong, it'll debut at E3 this weekend.
