subject: Init String

On 25 Apr 98 00:48:00, Jean Parrot said this to Gene Lowry
about "Init String":
JP> And a nice morning to you Spaceman Gene.
JP> Gene, Gene, you let me find a fault in what you are saying:
GL> ATZ to be valid one needs to have previously set the NVRAM,
GL> hopefully with something like AT&F1&W.
JP> The AT&F will read the profile and the &W will jsut write them
JP> back ( overwrite ) into the profile.
Not quite. The Courier has three templates and one profile. The
profile is stored with &W, and read with I5. It overwrites the active
profile (read with I4) when the modem gets ATZ'ed. I think the
Sportster has a couple of stored profiles, but anyway...The templates,
loaded from &F, &F1, and &F2, are "Factory default", "Hardware Flow
Control", and "Software Flow Control", respectively. The templates and
the profile(s) have nothing to do with each other, except that the
templates can overwrite active profile, and you can store it with an &W.
(I think the Sportster lets you do &W or &W0 for the first stored
profile, and &W1 for the second one.)
JP> Now is your turn at the trigger.... ;-)
What's them black specks all over your face, Jean? Glad you were
wearing your safety glasses! You got a misfire. :-)

... No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.
