Hi again, James! This is a continuation of my previous reply to you:

[re clothes dryer]
JB> it turned out I would have had to give it a back flip
JB> before anything - if at all - would have been dislodged
JB> from the squirrel cage fan.

Squirrel cage fan... ah. I think I know (more or less) what that
is! Years ago Dallas showed me one which was in our attic. I didn't
realize dryers might also have these things, but it makes sense to me now
that you mention it. Sometimes I think you give me more credit for
technical knowledge than I really deserve. I find it quite refreshing to
talk to people who don't see me as just another dumb housewife, however,
and feel free to talk about such matters. The same principle applies to
children & household pets... if you assume they can't understand, you
won't make any effort to teach them. Self-fulfilling prophecy. I enjoy
chatting with single men because they don't shunt me off in a corner to
talk cooking & sewing with some woman who would otherwise be bored
stiff. That may be what a lot of other men are attracted to. But
sometimes Dallas & I just roll our eyes & say "While the sex
may be good, it's not much use to me." :-))

JB> and someone has beaten me to shoveling the public walks!

AH> What a nice surprise.... :-) :-) :-)

JB> ...And now, a third time! Once, both flanks to my house
JB> were done, omitting mine and the neighbour's. Just as
JB> well that I didn't observe who was responsible for that
JB> one!

I'm baffled. One of the things I've noticed, however, as a
parent of a handicapped kid, is that other people tend to assume we can do
[whatever] all by ourselves because we seem to be so capable. I'll do the
impossible for this kid because she's *my* kid, and that's my job. You
shovel sidewalks for others because you realize it's hard on those with
limited mobility if nobody does it. But that doesn't mean either of us
finds it easy to do what we've done.... :-)

[re Welfare Mom]
JB> Looks like she has a new man pulling her load. He seems
JB> like a nice enough guy, so I hope she doesn't screw this
JB> up too. Maybe she can learn how to eat "humble pie".

And maybe he shovelled the sidewalk. Different people have
different thinking styles. Where I'd sit back & watch, others
apparently learn better by doing. Either way we find somebody who is an
improvement on what we thought we were attracted to earlier. I'm
acquainted with many of the latter too.... :-)

AH> somebody who wasn't clearly acting in loco parentis.

JB> That wasn't supposed to be, "loco parentitis"?

Oh, well done! Stay as sweet as you are.... ;-)
